I've had numerous issues with this, where I may have posted something semi confidential or made a typo that makes my code either broken, post unclear, or discloses some information that is considered private.
In these cases, I need to make a quick edit.
Normally in cases where a company wants to prevent a malicious user from removing valuable information via edit, the company puts in edit review functionality and an edit cap. For instance, I edit my post, my post is temporarily unavailable with a message saying that it is awaiting moderation / review, once the moderator approves the edit, the edit goes live, otherwise it is rolled back to its original state. If a user tries to edit 5 or more posts in 15 minutes, they are locked from editing until their current 5 have been approved. If a user has 5 or so edits rejected, they lose editing privileges or could be banned based on type of edit (is it malicious, etc). The other approach is a karma approach, where members earn karma for normal/good board behavior and after 15 or 50 karma points, they can edit their own posts.
I understand you not wanting to lose valuable forum information, but there has to be some middle ground. There's no good way to contact a forum administrator or moderator that I know of at the present moment to place an edit. If there was even a place where I could dispatch an edit to a moderator to review, that'd be better than what I'm seeing today.
Thanks,
Ravin
